What is Teacher's Role in a Language Classroom?

I believe that a qualified language teacher is one of the most significant components in a successful second language learning classroom. A qualified language teacher seems like an upper-level study partner in class.

Having the sense about students’ needs is the number one requirement to a qualified teacher. A study-partner-like teacher should have similar experience about learning the target language and/ or second language as what his or her students are experiencing in class. Therefor, he or she understands what kinds of confuse, struggling, and bottlenecks during the different learning periods. When students bring up questions to the experienced study partner, he or she can fully comprehends what sort of answers can be truly helpful and effectiv to solve their problems. Event though when the student can not explain what his or her question exactly is or what he or she really needs, this upper-level study partner still can foresee the need of his or her study partner rather than proclaims its own.

Obviously, a teacher should be professional on his or her teaching subject. As a language teacher, he or she should be knowledgeable and master at this language -- they can always answer students’ questions about the target language. If not, they are still able to have proper ways to figure out the answer and bring it back to the learners. Besides, a qualified language teacher has the capacity to deliver the answer clearly to his or her students. It’s like a good study partner can always help out his or her study buddies.

Planning and organizing efficiently are basic skills for a qualified teacher. A qualified language teacher is like a upper-level study partner because they understand the progress of learning the target language and their successful experience of learning this target language make them be able to plan the study activities more efficiently. Therefore, the other study group members will be benefit by “following this good study group leader.”

When we consider the relationship between a teacher and students, “study partners” could be a comfortable image. A teacher’s role in a language class is also applied to this consideration. The teacher is like a study buddy that you will never be afraid of asking him or her “stupid questions.” Maybe during the most time, this high-performance study partner plays the role of a master; while sometimes, you can feel that both of you are growing during the process of learning a new thing. This kind of relationship provides a easy-and-free study environment which is good for a new language learner.
